Short Bio
Dr. Stephen F. Crouse received his B.S. in Biology from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. His experience includes four years of teaching and coaching in the public schools of Iowa and Colorado before completing his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He completed a clinical post-doctoral experience at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse before assuming a faculty position at Texas A&M University in 1984. Dr. Crouse’s credentials include American College of Sports Medicine certification as an Exercise Program Director, and he is also a Fellow of this international sports medicine association. He is currently a Professor of Kinesiology in the Department of Health and Kinesiology, and Joint Professor of Internal Medicine in the College of Medicine. Dr. Crouse also serves administrative role as the Director of the Applied Exercise Science Laboratory. His research focus is in the general area of Exercise as Medicine. His specific health-related research aims have been targeted toward the study of the effects of exercise on blood lipid metabolism, and on other accepted heart and cardiovascular disease risk factors in men and women, young and old. His research in exercise physiology is focused on the adaptive response of the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system to exercise, nutrition, and physical training using aquatic, endurance, and resistance modalities of exercise. In addition, he has in progress research projects in sports physiology to profile elite athletes and study factors that contribute to the health of athletes, including nutritional supplements. He has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters, as well as a laboratory instructional manual in exercise physiology. Dr. Crouse and his wife, Jana, reside in College Station, and are the proud parents of three married daughters.
